The CRU has published the Consultation Paper: Initial Project Assessment of the MaresConnect interconnector. The CRU proposes to award the MaresConnect interconnector with a Cap and Floor regime in principle. This proposal is in principle as it is subject to a set of Initial Project Assessment (IPA) conditions.
The purpose of this consultation is to seek views on the CRU’s IPA for the MaresConnect interconnector, a proposed 750 MW electricity interconnector connecting Ireland and Great Britain.
We are requesting responses from interested parties, to the questions asked throughout the paper. Responses must be submitted through the consultation portal for consideration. Please provide supporting evidence-based rationale within responses. The deadline for responses to be submitted is 13th June 2025. The CRU will publish responses in full on the CRU website. Respondents should include any confidential information in a separate annex stating the rationale for not publishing this part of their comments. Responses from identifiable members of the public will be anonymised prior to publication on the CRU website unless the respondent explicitly requests their personal details to be published. The CRU privacy notice sets out how we protect the privacy rights of individuals here.
Following the end of the 6-week consultation period, the CRU will review responses received and, taking this feedback into consideration, will commence drafting the Decision paper.
